Development of a cold atomic muonium beam for next generation atomic physics and gravity experiments

چکیده

A high-intensity, low-emittance atomic muonium (M =\mu^+ + e^- =μ++e− ) beam is being developed, which would enable improving the precision of M spectroscopy measurements, and may allow a direct observation gravitational interaction. Measuring free fall atoms be first test weak equivalence principle using elementary antimatter ( \mu^+ display="inline">μ+ purely leptonic system. Such an experiment relies on high intensity, continuous muon beams available at Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI, Switzerland), proposed novel source. In this paper, theoretical motivation principles are described.

Two-species cold atomic beam

We generate a bright atomic beam containing laser-cooled rubidium and cesium, and we use this beam to load a mixed-species ultrahigh-vacuum (UHV) magneto-optical trap. We have characterized our two-species atomic beam over a range of operating conditions, and we obtain similar atom fluxes for each species. Within the UHV trap, interspecies inelastic collisions are observed in the form of enhanc...

Ultra-cold atomic hydrogen beam

We investigated two methods of producing a continuous free beam of electron-spin polarized atomic hydrogen, using a 7.5 T solenoid magnetic field and a helium film-coated cell . The first method involves accumulating H 1 at high field in a 300 mK storage cell and flipping the electron spin by using microwaves to drive a hyperfine transition . The resulting HT atoms are accelerated and focused b...

Loading of a cold atomic beam into a magnetic guide

We discuss recent experimental progress on the realization of a commonly called continuous atom laser. We demonstrate experimentally the continuous and pulsed loading of a slow and cold atomic beam into a magnetic guide. The slow beam is produced using a vapor loaded laser trap, which ensures two-dimensional magneto-optical trapping, as well as cooling by a moving molasses along the third direc...

A general cold atomic and molecular beam source

We demonstrate and characterize a high-flux beam source for cold, slow atoms or molecules. The desired species is vaporized using laser ablation, then cooled by thermalization in a cryogenic cell of buffer gas. The beam is formed by particles exiting a hole in the buffer gas cell. We characterize the properties of the beam (flux, forward velocity, temperature) for both an atom (Na) and a molecu...
